THE family of tearaway Lewis Green are disappointed he has had to be named and shamed to receive the help they say he needs.
On Monday Lewis, 10, from Kexborough, became one of the youngest in the UK to be given an Anti-social Behaviour Order.
His great-uncle Bob Perry said the system has let Lewis down from the beginning and that something could have been done at an early stage.
He said: “It has taken two lots of publicity in the Barnsley Chronicle and on TV to highlight the problem which led to a trip to London to see Professor Hill who diagnosed him with Aspergers Syndrome and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
He added that since Lewis has been on medication he has become a different person, attending school at Stairfoot regularly and staying in most of the time.
Lewis’ problems started in nursery school and when he was permanently expelled from school at the age of seven his family says it was put down to behavioural problems, and no help was provided.
His mother Stephanie Green says that she knew Lewis would be dealt an ASBO, but she had hoped he would be given a trial period from when he started taking Respiradone, as he has not been in trouble since he started on medication in January.
She said that all she wants for Lewis is for him to get a good education, hopefully in mainstream school.
