BARNSLEY MP Dan Jarvis has adopted an 'Al Capone' attitude towards a Barnsley shop which sells 'legal highs' and has vowed to get it shut down.

He said he wanted to see the Smokey Sam's shop closed and would use all means necessary to make it happen.

Mr Jarvis will write to the landlord of the shop on Sheffield Road for a second time, because he does not believe the landlord is acting responsibly.

He said: "I don't think it's acceptable that the premises are being used in the way they are being used in, I think it is causing significant angst to the local community."

Smokey Sam's had previously been in the Arcade in the town centre, but it moved to Sheffield Road after the owner of the Arcade building agreed there had been a breach of the tenancy.

Mr Jarvis is also meeting with senior council officers today to look at ways of introducing a ban which prevents people consuming the substances in the town centre.
