DARFIELD Post Office is under threat of closure, with the postmaster saying he is facing increasing pressure to step down.
Muralee Panchanathan, 45, became postmaster at Darfield's Garden Street branch three years ago, and said he was told at the time that the Post Office's 'network transformation' plan would be entirely voluntary.
But now Muralee says he is facing increasing pressure from Post Office Limited to accept 26 months' pay and step down from his position.
This would mean Darfield's current Post Office facilities would become a Post Office Local branch - with limited services based within another store, such as the Co-op.
The Darfield Area Amenity Society is hosting a public meeting regarding the post office's potential closure at 6.30pm in the Parish Church Hall on Friday.
