THIS Easter egg is not Terry's, it's Nancy's - and it's 47 years old.

It will never be eaten because the classic confectionery is now her most treasured possession and a family heirloom.

Her mum Lucy Holmes was given the treat by her brother in 1960 when they lived in Kendray.

Nancy, 81, said: "She kept it for a year and then asked if he was going to buy another one but he said, he would if she ate it. She never did and that's why I've still got it."

The egg was made by the now-closed Terry's of York and is still full of chocolates. It was passed to Nancy, of Warren Crescent, Worsbrough Common, when her mum died in 1965.

She says it is now an heirloom and will be passed to her eldest daughter Betty Miller when Nancy dies.

"It's my most treasured possession they could offer me a fortune but I wouldn't let it go, it's special.

"I've got my mother's China cabinet but it's the egg I value more. It's unusual to have a family heirloom that's an Easter egg, I reckon there cannot be one older."

She has also started collecting Lindt Easter bunny rabbits too. "They are being handed down as well, my mum would like it because she was a 'saver' like me."

Nancy will keep an eye on the grandchildren on Easter Sunday in case of temptation. But she added: "They have never touched it, I think they know not to eat it."
