Well, Rory and Harvey have been part of the family for days – and they’ve certainly had a profound effect on our previously all-female environment. Some developments have been truly amazing.

As far back as I can remember, both daughters have been reluctant risers. And there has always been much cajoling/pleading/ranting needed to get them out of bed ready to face the day ahead.

So you can imagine my concern this morning when I was woken by the unmistakeable sound of someone brushing their teeth.

I looked at the clock: 6.05am. Unlikely as it may seem, my first thought was a burglar with a dental hygiene obsession.

But, no, a familiar face peeped round the bedroom door: “Morning mum, I’m just going down to play with the boys. I’ll feed them and sort out the litter trays,” said elder daughter. “I’ll bring you a cup of tea in a minute.”

A purr-fect start to the day ...
