ARSONISTS have lit a spate of fires in farmers' fields across Barnsley.
Firefighters spent two hours tackling a blaze in Ardsley on Sunday after bales of hay were set on fire. Then on Monday afternoon they were called to deal with burning corn at Engine Lane at Shafton, and hours later a similar fire was started at Stacey Crescent, Grimethorpe.
A spokesman for the fire service said there had been a spate of similar fires which are a threat to farmers' livelihoods and tie up firefighting resources.
