SILKSTONE brass players are brassed off with the lack of local support for their band.

Megan Bostwick, seven, of Summer Lane, Barnsley, is one of the musicians blowing her own band's trumpet and urging people to get involved with Silkstone ‘B’ Band before it is too late.

The band was re-formed by director Wayne Bostwick four years ago but membership has now halved to 18, and there are fears the band will fold without more support.

Baritone player Megan and tenor horn player Olivia Barker, nine, of Innovation Way, Barnsley are among the band's youngest members. The pair are set to appear in Brassed Off at the Lamproom Theatre in April, and they hope to use music to inspire Silkstone community in the same way as characters in the production.

Silkstone ‘B’ Band is looking for players of any level, aged seven and upwards.
