SAVAGE cuts have forced a shake-up of Barnsley's children's centres which will see almost 300 childcare places axed and a third of jobs put at risk.
The scale of change is revealed under new proposals to be considered by Barnsley Council's ruling cabinet on Wednesday.
Members will be told how the council is required by government to save £2m in the service's budget, resulting in the borough's 19 children's centres - which employ up to 300 staff - being remodelled into a network of 'family centres'.
The report makes clear the books will be balanced mainly through a reduction of up to 100 posts.
