CAMPAIGNERS have welcomed news that a Wombwell children's centre under threat will stay open as a linked site under the latest restructure plans for Barnsley's children's centres.
King's Oak Children's Centre was going to become an outreach site, with services offered on a limited and timetabled basis, but following Barnsley Council's cabinet report on childcare provision last week, the centre will now become a linked site as of April.
As a linked site, King's Oak will still offer family support services during core hours but will still lose nursery provision.
Parents of children at King's Oak mounted a petition, contacted MP Michael Dugher and campaigned on Wombwell High Street to save the centre. The three Wombwell ward councillors also campaigned to keep the children's centre open in Wombwell.
