ONE of the region’s few remaining D Day veterans has died aged 90.

Joshua (Jack) Jackson died in Barnsley Hospital after a short illness- just days after being awarded the Legion d’Honneur by the French government.

Jack joined the Royal Navy when he was 18 and survived the brutal D Day landings without injury and then went on to serve in India and the Far East.

A funeral service will be held on Monday at Ardsley crematorium at 2.50pm and affterwards at the Strafford Arms, Stainborough.
