THERE will be no waiting at any time on parts of a town centre road branded ‘Silverstone’ by locals under new proposals to try and make it safer.

Barnsley Council’s cabinet members gave the go-ahead on Wednesday to overrule objections to the proposed restrictions on sections of Racecommon Road, between Town End roundabout and Longcar Lane, and put the new rules in place.

Kingstone councillors, Area Council managers and emergency services were consulted and no objections were made. Representatives of the ‘Make Racecommon Road Safe’ action group are also in support of the proposals.

Parked vehicles were cited as the cause in four incidents and drivers or pedestrians failing to look properly were cited in ten, which, the council said, in some cases may be as a result of parked vehicles.
