CALLS to clamp down on boy racers treating Shafton ‘like a race track’ have been made - before a serious accident occurs.

Young motorists have been accused of using Shafton Community Centre’s car park as a meeting place, before driving in convoy at speed along High Street and Dog Hill.

One 64-year-old High Street resident, who did not want to be named, told the Chronicle that he fears it is only a matter of time before an accident happens.

“You would swear you were at a race track at night,” he said. “Screeching tyres, revving engines and loud exhausts are daily occurrences - it’s like Shafton has turned into Silverstone.”
