REDS’ benefactor Patrick Cryne has promised money to help the club next season and hinted that striker Michael Chopra may return to Oakwell.
In an exclusive interview with the Chronicle, Mr Cryne confirmed funds are available to bring in ‘box office’ players — although he would not reveal how much — to help the team play the ‘right kind of football’.
Mr Cryne spoke to the Chronicle from Portugal, where he is celebrating promotion, and dropped the biggest hint yet that former crowd favourite Michael Chopra is being lined up. “He is absolutely the kind of player I would like to see.”
The self-made millionaire said: “If somebody is ‘box office’, we’re more likely to find the funds than if it’s somebody who won’t excite the fans.
“Andy Ritchie is aware of that so we will be looking at key players. Things will be business driven. If we said, ‘Here’s a pot of money’ that would get spent but we wouldn’t necessarily get better returns.
“But there will be more funds just not a specific sum.” For more exclusive revalations about Patrick Cryne see Chronicle Online Sport.
