A POPULAR community association may be forced to close after social services has withdrawn its main source of funding.

Volunteers at West Bank House at West Street, Hoyland were told that they would receive one final quarterly payment before the money would be stopped.

Now the charitable organisation faces an uncertain future unless new sources of revenue can be found.

Treasurer Lisa Booth, 39, explained just how dire the financial situation has become.

She said: “The funding we received was about £12,000 a year and it basically pays for the day-to-day running of the building and employing the staff.

“At the moment we don’t think that we are self-sustainable so we could run out of money by the end of the year.”

During busy weeks over 400 people use the centre which was founded in 1972.

The site caters for people aged between two and 97 with groups including adults with learning difficulties, ladies' friendship groups, slimming clubs, and out of hours school clubs.
