MOORLAND Plastics, which has provided jobs for disabled people in Barnsley for 50 years, will close by the end of March with the loss of all 28 jobs.

Barnsley Council says it can no longer afford to subsidise the plastics moulding factory at Carlton due to severe budget cuts from the government.

Of the 28 who currently work at Moorland, 20 have a range of disabilities. There were almost 40 staff at the firm 18 months ago when talks of ‘decommissioning’ were first announced.
