Barnsley have boosted their midfield ranks by signing Preston's Josh Brownhill on loan for 28 days.
Brownhill, 20, has made six appearances for Championship North End this season but has become available since Ben Pearson made the move to Deepdale earlier this week.
Brownhill, who played youth football for Manchester United, is a central midfielder and will challenge homegrown Brad Abbott for a place alongside captain Conor Hourihane in the starting eleven for the game at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.
