CONCRETE columns salvaged from the demolition of Central Offices in the town centre are being chopped up and recycled ready for use in the temporary market building which will replace it.
Demolition of the old offices appears to have stopped at the halfway point, but a council newsletter this week explains why work appears to have slowed.
“Demolition contractor Hague has been busy diamond sawing the structural columns which will be used to support the temporary May Day Green market building.”
Demolition is due to be complete by the end of this month.
