Worsbrough Bridge FC have agreed in principle to return to their traditional home of Park Road after 'living like tramps' for the last four months.

The football club, one of the best-known non-league outfits in the town, has been in talks with the association that runs the ground after a dispute earlier this season saw the Briggers leave their home of 92 years.

The Worsbrough Sports and Development Association (WSDA), in charge of the running of the ground, are in the process of repairing the floodlights which have previously been faulty and were one of the key factors in the initial dispute. Officials from the football club are hoping to check the floodlights next week with the intention of playing their first fixture in February back in Worsbrough.

"We have agreed that the team will return to Park Road once we have seen the floodlights working," said Bridge chairman Wayne Radford.

"There is still a little bit of friction between the two sides but we want to let bygones be bygones and we don't have any animosity towards the association. We just want to play football.

"Park Road is the club's home and the facilities there are good. "We have been living like tramps, going from one ground to another."

After leaving Park Road in September, Bridge played at Grimethorpe Sports Ground for several months – where floodlight failure was also an issue – before the Northern Counties East League said that venue was not up to their required standards.

They then groundshared with Maltby Main, where they also had matches called off due to floodlight failure, from mid-December. They have so far played at Maltby twice but had been discussing a return to Worsbrough since just after Christmas.

They are expected to play at Maltby on Tuesday then the following Saturday before returning to Park Road to host Shirebrook Town on February 2.

In a statement, a WSDA spokesperson said: "We would be very happy to see Worsbrough Bridge Athletic FC back at our Park Road site.  We have some fantastic facilities here and it will be good to see football at a very high level returning."

Meanwhile, Worsbrough lost 6-1 at local rivals Penistone Church on Saturday with their former striker Oliver Fearon hitting a hat-trick.
