A DEMENTIA doctor from Barnsley believes there will be significant improvements in treatments over the next decade which could help prevent the condition.
Dr Selina Wray, a senior research associate at the UCL Institute of Neurology, said more and more positive results were being seen from various trials which examine the build up of the two proteins which cause dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.
Dr Wray said Alzheimer’s Disease was caused by an abnormal build up of the tau and amyloid proteins, whilst front-temporal dementia was caused by an abnormal build up of the tau protein
She was recently awarded almost £1m to examine the build up of tau proteins.
