AND the man of the match is... 74 years old?

That’ll be Ged Silcock who is still playing football four times a week well into his 70s.

He’s not messing about either or coming on for the last five minutes - he was named man of the match the last two Thursdays running in his regular games at Honeywell Education Centre.

“If there’s a football team that’ll pick me, I’ll play,” said Ged, a goalkeeper and centre forward, of Barnwell Crescent, Wombwell.

Ged is a former Yorkshire Traction bus driver, and plays with the old ‘Tracky’ team on Mondays. In all the games he plays, he is the oldest by at least 20 years. Most of the players are half his age and younger - down to their teens.
