A TERMINALLY ill musician has donated three of his most treasured guitars to a Barnsley school so they will continue to be played long after he has gone.

Bren Ashburn, 64, has handed over the three instruments worth more than £1,000 in total to students at Outwood Academy Carlton.

The lifelong musician was diagnosed with lung cancer last year and decided he wanted to leave a legacy that would help encourage the next generation to play music.

A year ago he bought nine new guitars from Jax Music in Barnsley and the business added another three to the collection. He shared them out among four schools near his home in Royston and also donated some money towards music lessons for local children.
