BARNSLEY sculptor Graham Ibbeson has unveiled his model of the former Yorkshire and England fast bowler, the late Fred Trueman.

A 7 ft high statue based on the model will be put on display in Skipton, where he lived, sometime next year.

The model shows Fred and his famous bowling action just after he has released the ball.

Fred, who was born at Stainton, took a then record number of Test wickets - 307 - between 1952 and 1965.

After the design was approved by Fred's widow, Veronica, and the cricket club, Graham added several modifications to the model including Fred's famous steel toecap on his right boot, a right sleeve which was always unbuttoned during his run-up to the wicket and more 'flesh' on his shoulder to ensure the bowling action looks correct.
