AN ILLICIT tobacco control officer who has seized more than 60,000 cigarettes while in post will be kept on for another year.

Barnsley Council has signed off the decision to extended the post until March 2017 after achieving some ‘excellent results’ during a two year tenure.

The temporary post, from April 2014 to March this year, is within the council’s regulatory services’ commercial unit and funding for it was agreed by the council’s public health department. It has agreed to continue funding the post for a further 12 months from tup to March next year.

A report by the head of regulatory services, Simon Frow, states the officer’s work contributes to objectives of improving the health and well-being of the borough’s residents.
