George Williams' 91st-minute header put Barnsley level with sixth place after a 1-0 win over ten man Peterborough United at Oakwell on Tuesday.

The full-back's first ever Football League goal put the Reds on the same amount of points as sixth-placed Gillingham who drew at Rochdale but have a better goal difference than Barnsley.

Posh's Chris Forrester had been sent off in the 40th minute after clashing with Conor Hourihane.

Barnsley kept the same team that drew at Burton Albion on Saturday but the performance was more impressive. The Reds started well but Peterborough almost took the lead in the 13th minute when Shaquile Coulthirst flicked a header just wide from a corner.

Barnsley's first real chances came in the 36th minute when their former goalkeeper Ben Alnwick made two good saves, tipping a deflected Hourihane cross wide then producing a top one-handed stop from a Marc Roberts header.

Forrester and Hourihane then squared up to each other with the Barnsley captain going down claiming he had been head butted. When the referee brought them back together to caution them, the Posh man appeared to claim Hourihane had stood on his foot so he struck the Reds man in the chest and was shown two yellow cards.

Winnall almost put the Reds in front just before the break when he met a Hourihane corner on the volley seven yards out but Alnwick made another superb save to push it over the bar.

Winnall was again denied by a point blank Alnwick save on 60 minute after Adam Davies had kept out of a decent Jon Taylor effort at the other end.

Barnsley missed a host of half-chances and looked as though they would have to settle for a second straight 0-0 until Williams headed a right-wing cross into the bottom left corner.

Posh manager Graham Westley was then sent off deep in injury-time for dissent.
