A FORMER footballer has just received his first international cap - 41 years after playing in the World Cup.
Geoff Sleight played two games for Australia in the 1966 tournament but never received his cap.
When Australia qualified for the 2006 World Cup the Football Federation decided to award caps to everyone who has played for Australia since 1922.
Last month Geoff, 63, of Woolley, spent three weeks in Australia with wife Peggy where he collected his at a ceremony.
He said: “ It was an amazing experience to get it. It’s something people strive for all their lives."
