MOTORISTS are being warned to expect disruption with work to improve traffic flow at a notorious Barnsley bottleneck set to commence next week.
Funding to significantly improve the local road network next to Junction 36 of the M1 motorway has been secured and now Barnsley Council is on site and ready to commence with the works.
The improvements will see a major realignment of the road system, including the construction of two new roundabouts and traffic signals.
There will also be a direct link from the motorway onto the local road network, which will reduce existing traffic congestion at the A61 Birdwell roundabout, improve bus services and cut down journey times.
