FOUR former lifeguards at the Metrodome are to tackle the Great North Swim - in Lake Windermere.
Robert Blackburn and his mates Sam Leake, Thomas Lawcock and Steve Ellis have been training hard to get ready for the five kilometre swim in the freezing Lake District waters.
The pals have been swimming vast distances in pools, and in Sam and Steve’s case even in Manvers Lake, to prepare for their epic challenge.
Next weekend the intrepid quartet hope all their preparation will enable them to complete the course and that their wet suits and specialist grease will keep their bodies warm enough.
They are swimming to raise money for Barnsley Hospital’s Tiny Hearts appeal.
