FORMER Pop Idol Sam Nixon made the most of a break in filming to play a rock concert in Barnsley.
He has formed a band, Mason, with a group of mates from Barnsley and their first proper gig was at the Arches on Saturday.
Sam said it was a 'proper buzz' to play in front of a live crowd - especially in his hometown. He said it was totally different to the performances he had to do on Pop Idol.
"There is no pressure with this. I'm not doing it for a job, it's purely a hobby and we just have a laugh about it."
