BARNSLEY College is preparing to merge with Doncaster College following a national review of further education, the Chronicle can reveal.
The college’s board of governors has agreed to proceed with the recommendations of a government-commissioned review of post-16 education which aims to move towards ‘fewer, larger, more resilient and efficient providers’.
A meeting of the review’s steering committee will be held on June 13.
If Doncaster College also agrees to proceed at that meeting it will kick-start a lengthy process of ‘due diligence’ and sorting out of the finer detail ahead of the merger.
Barnsley College deputy principal Yiannis Koursis said nothing was set in stone yet and there was a lot to arrange before any merger could take place.
