TWO families have been left devastated after a speeding taxi driver who killed one man and seriously injured another walked free from court.
Robert Lee Hunter, 21, of York Street, Hoyland, was acquitted of death by dangerous driving and the lesser charge of careless driving at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday.
He was on his way to pick up a fare in August last year when his car was in a collision with Daniel Corker, 23, on Clougfields Road who died.
After the verdict, his mum Christine, of Noble Street, Hoyland said: “I am shocked. What is a life worth? We just wanted justice for our son and for Craig.
“No parent should have to go through this. We have got to live with this for the rest of our lives but so does his conscience.”
“Daniel would have been 24 on Sunday so this has obviously been a very difficult week for us. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported us, especially Craig and his parents.”
