DAME Esther Rantzen came to Barnsley yesterday to talk to children about the importance of safeguarding and how her charity ChildLine can help.

She met with students at Darton College for a frank discussion which coincided with ‘safeguarding week’ and the announcement this week that Darton College has won a silver Anti-Bullying Charter award.

Dame Esther told the Chronicle: “It’s ChildLine’s 30th year, so I’m going around the UK talking to young people about what they know about ChildLine, how aware they are, whether they know there’s a freephone number 0800 1111 that doesn’t show up on phone bills, whether they know there’s an online service.”
