CRIME in the Hoyland district has been increasing for the last three months, with figures for reported incidents leaping by more than a third in April, compared to the same month last year.
In May - the most recent month where statistics have been released - the overall number of incidents in the district, which takes in an area including Hoyland, Elsecar and communities out to Jump, Tankerlsey and Birdwell - were up from 197 last year to 201.
But for April the increase was 60 extra incidents, rising from 177 to 237 and there was also a marked increase in March, with figures increase by 38 incidents to 206 from the previous year’s total of 168.
