HUNGRY bus drivers are considering industrial action because Stagecoach is planning to scrap some of their canteen facilities.
Drivers can buy cheap hot food from a small canteen on Midland Street, but Stagecoach wants to move into a new building because the old one is not big enough.
Although the new break room will be bigger and more modern than the existing one, drivers are unhappy because they will no longer be able to buy proper hot meals.
Stagecoach bosses say it would be too expensive to provide a new canteen because of health and safety regulations.
Instead, the building may include vending machines and a microwave.
One driver, who did no wish to be named, said: “If we have to go to cafes instead it’ll cost us more money that we can’t afford.
“If we’re on late we’ll either have to bring our own food or starve.”
Another driver complained that Stagecoach’s Chesterfield depot and rival company Arriva’s Wakefield depot have full restaurant facilities.
