A SECURITY firm which commissioned a 3D animation warning children of the dangers of playing on building sites has been put forward as a Community Hero.
Active Response Security came up with the idea for an animated bee after the firm was hired to secure the roof of a site in Essex where children were getting in.
It came a year after the tragic death of seven-year-old Conley Thompson from Barnsley whose body was found inside a vertical pipe on a building site at Bank End Road, Worsbrough, in July 2015.
The animation is being shown in schools and shows a happy, singing bee tempted to venture into a building site. It features a tune which children can sing along to and the idea is that after watching, teachers encourage children to draw a scene they remember best and have fun naming the bee.
The project has been nominated by Derek Carpenter, who said felt compelled to nominate the firm, and the project puts the safeguarding of children as a priority.
Michelle Bailey, managing director of Active Response, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. I am extremely proud of the initiative and how not only our peers but the wider community have pulled together to help spread the message to help keep our children safe.”
The project was backed by Dr Alan Billings, South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, who said he hoped the animation would avoid a repeat of the tragedy in which Conley lost his life.
