INDEPENDENT traders renting shop units in the entrance way to Barnsley Market reacted with fury after being told there will be no provision for them to go in the newly refurbished building.

Rebecca Dawson is one of the traders affected and says she and other independent traders are “livid”.

And she believes the council has led on the current traders, who thought they would be accommodated in shop units in the building once work had been carried out, before turning their backs on them.

Rebecca, who sells greetings cards and gifts through her business Mementoes, said: “We independent traders have had several meetings with the council since the new development was first mooted.

“And from the very beginning it was inferred we would be given provision in the new set up.

“But when I saw the plans last week I noticed there was nothing for us.”
