DETAILED proposals for the new flagship town centre library have been submitted to planning officials.
Council bosses gave the go ahead for a new modern library in the heart of the town centre, on the corner of Eldon Street and May Day Green, last month.
Work is expected to start on the £4.9m library - to be called The Beacon - in November with a target date for completion being February 2018.
The new library is intended to be the cornerstone of the ambitious £100m Better Barnsley redevelopment, which will also see a new public square created, the Metropolitan Centre refurbished, a new shopping boulevard and multiplex cinema.
