A SCHEME to turn a disused function room at a working men's club into a bedsit complex has been dismissed by a planning inspector who found the homes would be "severely compromised" if built.
Ryan Morling had applied for planning permission to convert the function room at Great Houghton WMC, in High Street, which is no longer used, though the rest of the club remains in operation.
The proposal would have involved a communal kitchen and seating area, with several bedsits.
It was taken to appeal after being rejected by Barnsley Council and the planning inspector who decided the case found that because some bedsits would have windows looking out onto a fence, they would be "severely compromised" as accommodation.
