A BARNSLEY headteaching consultant suspended by the council has been cleared of wrong doing by the General Teaching Council.

Mark Braine was told he could not hold senior management posts in schools until he had met retraining specifications after the GTC found him guilty of bullying and sexual harassment.

When the council discovered Royston High governors had given a consultancy job to Mr Braine it stepped in, suspending him and headteacher Kay Jenkins.

Mr Braine was reported to the GTC to see if he had breached its conditions and this week they confirmed he had not.

A letter from GTC registrar Alan Meyrick to Mr Braine, sent on Wednesday, states: “I am writing to inform you that I no longer consider it appropriate to refer your case to a Professional Conduct Committee as a potential breach of the disciplinary order imposed upon you in September 2006.”

Mr Braine claims the governors knew about his past and still specially created a job for him because of the good work he had already done for the school.

A fact he says is borne out by their funding of the fees for the headteaching qualification the GTC has said he must pass before he can return to his former role as a headteacher.
