WATER damage forced several businesses to close shop as the mass cleanup got underway at the Elsecar Heritage Centre.

And 'It’s Christmas' were forced to call it a day after most of their stock was ruined by 2ft of water.

Toby Kenny, who runs a business printing concert tickets next-door, said the owner had left because of the damage.

He said: “She handed in her keys and I think she's going to work from home now. She has had most of her stock ruined at ground level.

“It is very sad as it was mainly open on weekends so she wasn't there when it started.”

Toby, 33, said his father and son business was running at around 80 per cent but others were not able to reopen yet.

He said: “We were very lucky we had time to move computers onto the second shelf so we managed to save most of our stock.”

The floodwater rose to windowsill level on other properties.
