A MAN who wanted to kill himself by jumping off the motorway bridge at Dodworth was talked down by a passer by who was on his way to work.
Samuel Atkinson, 22, saw the man hanging onto the motorway side of the railings on road bridge at the bottom of Keresforth Hill. He was clinging on with his hands and squatting down as if he was about to jump, he said.
He quickly spun his van around and went back to convince the man not to jump.
“I just asked him what he was doing and he said he he was going to kill himself. I told him he wasn’t going to do that and he asked why. I told him he could not only kill himself but anyone who was driving under the bridge - it could be a mother and her kids.
“He said I was right and he had never thought of it like that and that. He said he didn’t want to die and that he didn’t have anybody, which was quite sad.”
