A VILLAGE hall has stepped in to save a ‘crucial’ Post Office service from disappearing for good.
Mapplewell Post Office counter shut suddenly in September, less than a year after being relocated to the Costcutter on Spark Lane from a separate building further up the road.
The closure was a hammer-blow for residents who said it was an essential service and that the closure had forced people out of the village to use other branches in Darton, New Lodge or Staincross.
But there is hope on the horizon after the Post Office approached Mapplewell and Staincross Village Hall, on Darton Lane, to broker a deal that would see the service retained in the village.
