GOVERNMENT plans to cut hundreds of millions of pounds from the budget for community pharmacies would be a prescription for disaster says Barnsley MP Michael Dugher.
The government plan to cut £113m this financial year and a further £95m in 2017-18.
During a debate in the House of Commons on Wednesday, Mr Dugher told ministers the plan for cuts would be bad for the NHS and bad for Barnsley.
He said government cuts to local chemists will also increase downstream costs in other parts of the NHS - especially in already over stretched GP surgeries and A and E units.
