A TELECOMMUNICATIONS firm has started consultations over plans which could lead to a new mast going up in Silkstone, sparking fears that the project could leave the community divided.

A company called Shared Access is interested in basing a new mast in the village and that would bring the advantages of improved signals in the area and the promise of £30,000 funding for community projects.

But some Silkstone Parish Councillors are worried the proposal could have the same impact on the village as a scheme some years ago which could have seen transmitters for mobile telephones mounted at the church.
