A COURAGEOUS police officer who continued to pursue an offender AFTER he assaulted her and grabbed her by the throat has been given an award for her bravery.
PC Sarah Botham was among a raft of officers recognised by District Commander Chief Superintendent Tim Innes during a cermeony at Barnsley Town Hall on Wednesday.
In August PC Botham was chasing a car being driven by a man identified as being involved in several shoplifting incidents.
When she stopped the car and approached the driver, he grabbed her, putting his hands on her throat and prevented her from arresting him.
He then broke free and fled but PC Botham ran after him. As she caught up with the man, he assaulted her again, causing minor injuries which required hospital treatment.
