STONEWORK salvaged from the old Chicago Rock building that was destroyed by fire and pulled down is going on show in Barnsley.
The three-storey building, which dominated Island Corner at the top of New Street and Pall Mall, holds fond memories for those who shopped, worked and drank there.
It was devastated by fire in August which gutted the Grade II listed building and left in it in ruins. Just weeks later it had to be flattened as it posed a risk to the public. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
Following the demolition, bosses at Experience Barnsley museum thought it important to save what they could and pieces of stonework which have been conserved will soon be on display in the gallery’s ‘Barnsley Wall’.
