Barnsley's players will have a day off on Christmas Day before hosting Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day.
The Reds usually train on Christmas Day but Paul Heckingbottom has decided to give them a day off on Sunday.
Head coach Heckingbottom said: "They will be off on Christmas day. We want to win on Boxing Day, but Christmas Day is just an important day for everyone and we can still win on Boxing Day.
"Most of our boys live locally so they will be visiting friends and family. Only a couple of them have kids so they won't be getting up early and having the stress of wrapping up presents on Christmas Eve. It's important for them to have the day off.
"We've given them a lot more responsibility in the last year and let them make sure they are ready for games. Rather than monitoring them every minute of every day."
Heckingbottom, who said he would be cooking and 'having a few pints' on Christmas Day, is pleased with a run of three wins in the last four matches after winning one out of 11.
"The results are everything but, if you get the performances right, the results will eventually come. Even in the spell when we didn't win many games, our performances were good.
"We are always working towards a perfect performance and not panicking about results. We know what we are like at our best and we're going to try to play like that week on week."
