SOUTH Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is on course to be left with cash in the bank at the end of the financial year - an improvement on the previous forecast where an overspend of £400,000 had been expected.
The service has an annual budget of around £48m but that has been declining in recent years as a result of government austerity cuts.
As it works to balance its books, the service produces regular reviews of its anticipated spending for the year and the most recent report states it is expected to be around £102,000 in the black on current spending projections.
That is a significant improvement on the previous position, where a deficit of £422,000 had been forecasted.
