CUTS to policing will be inevitable, the police and crime boss for South Yorkshire has warned ahead of setting the annual budget for policing.
Dr Alan Billings is responsible for setting the force’s budget - with 23 per cent paid from council tax and the rest coming from government.
Mr Billings says restrictions imposed on him by government means he is looking at an increase in the amount households pay for policing in South Yorkshire.
The local council tax share, known as the precept, is set by Mr Billings who is considering whether to increase this by 10p a week to protect funding for local policing ‘as far as possible’ or try to keep the number of officers and PCSOs at the present level with a ‘modest’ increase in the precept and make some cuts.
