IT WAS one of the scariest moments of Rachel Hallas’ life when she realised her mum Ellen had collapsed at work and her heart had stopped.
But trained community first aid responder Rachel was able to step in - and her quick action managed to save the life of her mum and colleague.
Rachel was commended this week by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service for her efforts at Kostal UK Ltd, in Goldthorpe, where the unfolded.
Ellen collapsed whilst on the production line. She was placed in the recovery position by quick-acting colleague Hilary South before Rachel, a team leader at the firm and qualified community first responder with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, stepped in.
Rachel started CPR and assisted colleagues Gavin Haynes and Paul Saunders, both trained first aiders, in using the on site defibrillator unit to restart Ellen’s heart and continue CPR until she started breathing again.
