THE decision to form a legal off-road motorcycle club is proving more than worthwhile. After forming in January 2005, Barnsley Trials Club now has more than 250 members and the number is continuing to grow. They hold around 20 trials a year at five different venues including eight trials for the club championship and eight trials for the novice and beginners series. They also cater for all levels of ability from beginner to experienced and the age of the riders range from eight to eighty. Their set-up is proving that successful, they are even assisting Doncaster council with their bid to form a trials club at Carcroft. The idea for a club came from the Coalfields Regeneration public consultation meeting held around Rabbit Inngs, Royston. Due to concerns over illegal biking, the club was set-up to give riders the chance to perform in a safe and legal environment. Officials have liased with both Barnsley council and the police and believe that is one of the reasons for its success. The next club event is a charity trial at the Dovecliffe site near Wombwell tomorrow in aid of Weston Park Hospital at 2pm. Meanwhile, results from the last trial are as follows: Youth Conducted course: Easy route: 1, Oliver Hutsby 49 faults; 2, Sam Whithead 66; 3, Brendan Wain 72; 4, Jake Hatton 90.
